Is this not the most beautiful and interesting flower you've ever seen? They are similar to the surprise lily (they suddenly pop up in mid- to late-summer, normally after a large rain), but they are very rare in this part of the country. I never saw one until last year when my mom's neighbor gave her some, and she passed a few along to me. This is one of six that are currently blooming in our back yard.

Okay. This is obviously aptly named. My 3 year old daughter just saw this and immediately asked, "What is that? A spider??" She has a total fascination with spiders recently, so when I said it was a flower that looks like a spider, her next question was, "Can you print that?"
