Caramel apples

Benji is checking the Joy of Cooking recipe for caramel with Nona's supervision (it's unwise to let a toddler free reign with the brown sugar!). We have a annual tradition of making caramel apples at Halloween time, but this is first year where we decided to make the caramel from scratch. Now, opening caramel wrappers and melting them down is quite good. However, we now know true caramel goodness. It is only four ingredients: heavy cream, dark corn syrup, brown sugar, and butter - and is definitely worth a little more effort. I'm thinking we need to make a new tradition of making them mid-November as well! :)
